The Development

This page sets out what has been publicly announced about the current project, what was published in 2008, and what remains unconfirmed between the two.

The current publicly announced project

According to public announcements and accounts reported to the campaign, the proposal is a large five-star hotel beside Meia Praia by the Portimão-based Jupiter Hotel Group, with several pools, spas, restaurants, a private outdoor amphitheatre and a large parking structure. It is described as phase one of three: a second hotel next to the first, and residences, would follow. Clearing work has been observed on the site, full construction is reported as intended for autumn 2026 and phase one completion is targeted for June 2029. The campaign has requested clarification of which permits and licences have been issued, and no answer has yet been received.

The 2008 Meia Praia Bay Resort concept

A resort concept described as Meia Praia Bay Resort was published in 2008. Material from that period described a substantially larger tourism complex. We publish it here because older approvals may be relevant to the planning basis for current works.

Important: the relationship between the 2008 concept and the current project has not been confirmed. Do not assume they are the same project, the same permission or the same footprint. We are asking the authorities to clarify this on the record.

Project location

The area outlined in blue is the land reported as the site of the proposed hotel and apartments, between Meia Praia beach and Lagos marina. The campaign has requested the planning file so that a precise, sourced site boundary can be published.
