How donations are currently managed

Save Meia Praia is currently in the process of establishing its own Portuguese association.

Until that process is complete, Associação Miradouro da Luz has agreed to receive and administer donations on behalf of the campaign.

All donations are restricted to campaign purposes, including legal advice, independent environmental experts, campaign communications, website costs, public engagement and campaign operating expenses.

Once the new association has been formally established, responsibility for fundraising and financial administration will transfer to that organisation.

Clearing work has begun beside the EU-funded dune restoration at Meia Praia, Lagos, reportedly for a five-star hotel — described as phase one of three. We are asking for one thing: publish the planning file and assess the environmental impact before irreversible works proceed.
According to the Portuguese Government Transparency Portal, around €2.2m of EU Cohesion Fund money supported the rehabilitation of the Meia Praia dune cordon. A major resort is now announced beside it. How are the two reconciled? Ask the question with us.

We are building an organisation quickly and professionally while pursuing a strong legal strategy, and that takes funding. We will be challenging large corporations with vast resources. We will not send repeated appeals, but at this early stage the campaign needs the means to move forward. Everyone can give a different amount; what matters is taking a stand.
